THE FINAL EXPERT TO COME ON SKIPPER’S BOAT

The final expert to come on Skipper’s boat in the boatyard was Ian, he is a specialist boat electrician and works for Boat Electrics. Here he is squeezing himself into an awkward space on the pilot berth where he is checking the wiring for the AIS, which stands for the Automatic Identification System. This bleeps when another vessel is near and shows your progress on an electronic chart. It is a great extra safety tool, but skipper does not rely on it alone. He plans and double checks every trip to be as safe as possible. Ian has one small daughter, too young to sail with him but she loves to see the boats and will sail when she is older.
